No Pressure to Change Banks, Just Better Options

Hello,

Wow, it’s November already! That means the start of the busy season. With harvest kicking off in most areas and hay finishing up in others, there’s no doubt you’ll have some long days (and even longer nights) ahead.

I thought about sharing a few tips on how to look after yourself during harvest, but instead, I decided to ask our in-house expert, Rob. His number one tip was slow downrushing will only cause mistakes and add time in the long run. He also mentioned good music, drinking plenty of water and taking breaks when you need them. Simple, but solid advice!

Off-Farm Assets Just Got Easier
We’ve recently noticed more of our clients looking to invest in off-farm assets, such as residential properties, to help secure the long-term future of their farming operations.

In the past, we’ve referred these types of loans elsewhere, but with Laura now joining the team we have increased capacity to help our clients. So we’re excited to share that Purvis AgriFinance is now accredited to assist with home loans.

This means we can now provide a comprehensive service that supports both your business and personal financial goals, helping you diversify your assets with a broker who truly understands your farm and your future. We’re thrilled to be able to offer this new capability, so if you’re considering investing in off-farm property or would like to discuss your options, get in touch with us today.

Out and About – What We’ve Been Up To This Month
It’s been a full month. We kicked things off at the Yorke Peninsula Field Days. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello (and congratulations to our prize winners). Despite the wild weather, it’s always a great chance to catch up, see the latest in ag and have a chat.

We also attended the International Rural Women’s Day event on the Yorke Peninsula. It was a beautiful day in a stunning location. Hearing from speakers Jane Sale and Louise Tahney was incredibly moving, not a dry eye in the room. A powerful reminder of the resilience, strength and heart of rural women.

In between events and with the recent rate drops, we’ve been busy reviewing all of our clients’ rates. With our ability to compare your current rate against the broader market, we can quickly tell if you’re not sitting where you should be.
If that’s the case, we’ll be in touch to help you keep your bank honest and make sure you’re getting the best deal available.

No Pressure to Change Banks, Just Better Options

Using a broker doesn’t mean you have to change banks. Our goal is to find the best finance solution for you, and if you’re happy where you are but your rate isn’t competitive, we can work with your current bank to negotiate a better deal.

In our latest blog, we share how this works with a real client story. We took a clients proposal to a few banks and received a 0.37% rate reduction, saving around $20,000 a year in interest. Even with that saving, they weren’t quite ready to leave their long-term bank. So, we took the same information back to their current lender, and they offered a 0.32% reduction on a loan offer that was only a month old.

That’s what working with us looks like, options, not pressure.

What’s Happening with Interest Rates?

The RBA met yesterday and kept the cash rate on hold. For most of this year, the big four banks were expecting rate cuts sooner rather than later,  but sentiment has now shifted. Most are now forecasting cuts early next year, not in 2025.

Here’s what each of the major banks is expecting:

Commonwealth Bank (CBA)
Forecasts a 0.25% rate cut in February 2026, taking the cash rate to 3.35%.

Westpac
Expecting two rate cuts of 0.25% in February and May 2026.

National Australia Bank (NAB)
NAB have ruled out further rate cuts for the remainder of the year. They expect the next rate change to be in May 2026.

ANZ
Also anticipating a 0.25% cut in February 2026, bringing the cash rate down to 3.35%.

Trumps Beef Tarrifs Good News

Australian cattle farmers are riding a wave of unexpected opportunity as American beef exports to China slump by around 90%. Australian beef has surged into the gap, with China purchasing roughly half a billion dollars more of Aussie beef in the past five months alone. Happily, exports to the US remain strong too, despite tariffs, because the product tends to be competitive.
