THE BANK MANAGER REVOLVING DOOR

One of the biggest frustrations for my business banking clients is the regular bank manager turnover and the need to build new relationships.

To build a strong relationship, you need to spend a lot of time and energy explaining your business. It takes a lot of time and many meetings for you to build rapport and trust.

So, when your bank manager moves on, you need to start the frustrating process of building a new relationship from scratch.

But it’s not just the time spent bringing the new bank manager up to speed on your business. A new banker may not have the same experience, energy, or capabilities as the last. These inconsistencies can create uncertainty, especially when you really need the support of your relationship manager.

From the bank’s perspective, it’s a major challenge and not an easy problem to solve.

So what can you do to improve your relationship with your bank manager?

1. Build depth in the relationship. Get to know your Business Bankers’ direct manager.

2. Speak up if you are unhappy with your bank manager. If your current banker isn’t a good fit, this is one instance where a change can help.

3. Review your loan structure. The wrong loan structure can mean that when you contact your manager, it’s about something urgent you need. If you have the right loan structure, your reliance on your bank manager is less and your interactions more positive.

4. Work with the bank. Build credibility and trust with the bank to show you value your banking relationship.

5. Use a finance broker to add value to the relationship. We won’t replace the relationship you have with your bank, but we complement it and can be the constant in your business. As your broker, we know your story and understand your business back to front. We’ll also help you build the relationship with the bank and ensure you have the right loan structure.

Ultimately, working with a business banking broker will help you achieve the best outcome, no matter how many relationship managers pass through the door.
